English speaking ability is ranked differently for CEFR, Cambridge, IELTS and TOEFL tests. This chart explains the different levels of English speaking ability for CEFR, Cambridge, IELTS and TOEFL students.
Many organizations require a certain level in order to meet their acceptance requirements. If you do not meet a certain level, you will not be accepted. See the CEFR chart for your English Speaking ability. Universities will usually require B1 level as a minimum and prefer B2 First Certificate Cambridge English level. IELTS minimum score for universities is 4.5 and many universities prefer 6.5 IELTS scores. A TOEFL score minimum of 55 is required by many universities with a TOEFL score of 100 preferred by most universities. Read more.
Most professional jobs require Business Fluent which is C1 Advanced (Cambridge Advanced English – CAE) , IELTS 7-8 or TOEFL 110-120 or a university degree with English courses. Lower scores indicate that more language study is required in order to integrate with work groups. Before you speak, organize your ideas and think about what you want to say and how you will say it. Choose a speaking partner at your level and practice speaking together. Pronunciation : Is your pronunciation correct and understandable or is frequently unintelligible ?
Fluency and Coherence : Did you present information in a coherent manner ? Did your introduction make sense and flow logically without long pauses or repetitions?
Vocabulary : Did you use vocabulary appropriately and with variety or did you use simple words with frequent repetition ?
Grammatical range and accuracy : Did you use grammar structures appropriated and with variety ? Did you use subordinate clauses and relative pronouns to connect ideas appropriately ? (Subordinate clauses begin with words like: because, which means that, who, etc).
